To anyone considering teaching English in China for the American Education Center, I would be delighted to share the following: my own experience.
I do recall being apprehensive as I signed my employment contract, and I was just as apprehensive as I began the twenty-hour flight from JFK to Beijing. But as I landed, and was met by Linda and David, two terrific Beijingers, my fears evaporated.
We proceeded down the highway to a great city.
I would go back in a second. I adored the subway, the food, the...oh the whole thing.
To make a long story short, it was the best experience of my life. The friends I made are so dear, and the people of China on the whole are wonderful, hard working, generous and welcoming.
I was a teacher of young people in their twenties, who had studied English at Chinese universities. Pronunciation and conversation was what we worked hardest at.
I lived in a very nice apartment with a kitchen, bedroom, living room and bath. I had TV, air conditioning, and an internet connection. I don't know if you will live in such a place or whether you will be on a campus, but I do know that Max Chen and all the devoted people who work for him are very ethical, idealistic, hard working, and fair minded. They will treat you very, very well.
The desire for English skills among those I met was very strong. For my part I was very pleased to be able to help them.
I would be delighted to speak to or correspond via email with anyone who is considering this adventure.
